AOC and Ilhan Omar make-believe their own arrests
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar pretend to get arrested, and the mainstream fake news media plays along.
On July 19th - today as I write this - an abortion rights protest was staged outside the Supreme Court. This is in response to the Supreme Court overturning of Roe V. Wade in a 5-4 majority opinion on June 24th, 2022. The resulting fallout was - according to official news sources, in this case, ABC news - the arrests of 17 members of the house of representatives. I’m fixating on two for a specific reason - they were caught staging their own arrests.
Now I’m sure it’ll be rationalized as the police escorting them away to later handcuff them and take them away, except that Ilhan Omar wasn’t actually escorted at all. She walked away with her hands behind her back like Alfred Hitchcock, with a police officer several steps behind, and who didn’t look particularly interested in following her.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — better known by her brand name AOC because no one can be bothered to type that name out all the time — was at least escorted away by the arm along with another woman, but she and Ilhan Omar both couldn’t resist breaking the illusion as they both threw a hearty red salute to cheering protesters, letting the crowd’s fervor make them forget they’re supposed to be handcuffed.
Now, we’re no strangers to political theater. In my opinion most congressional hearings are nothing more than pageantry masquerading as action. The right is especially prevalent for this, especially Ted Cruz. Trey Gowdy was another, until he opted to instead take a job with Fox News rather than do political theater work anymore as a member of congress. The most recent example is the January 6th show trial, with Liz Cheney taking the spotlight for that play-in-progress. This of course doesn’t mean that the left never gets in on the action. Pelosi - when not sending stock tips to her husband ahead of legislative votes - is an old favorite. She’s certainly my favorite. Her baffling mannerisms have been the source of meme gold for a long time.
Back to the subject at hand, though. What I want to ask is what the news media has to gain from overt gaslighting? Is this a campaign commercial disguised as news? It certainly seems that way. Nothing will appeal left-wing voters quite like the notion that their vote will be going to a freedom fighter. And if you can avoid actually doing any real fighting, even better. No need to damage a fancy suit in the mud and the blood when you can record 15 seconds of a fake arrest and get the same effect.
I don’t like to parrot Trump if I can help it, though I am working on my impression of him. But in the illustrious words of Trump, I say to you, mainstream news media - You are Fake News™. It’s gotten boring at this point. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy finding the truth under the mountain of shit you peddle as fact, but it does get tiresome. What does this do for our country? Absolutely nothing. I’m sure it’ll help sell ads, though. I guess we needed something to cover for the fact that there is still deafening radio silence from prevalent companies in the mainstream news media who still refuse to acknowledge the evidence that our current sitting President has sold influence through his son to foreign actors to the highest bidder - including, but not limited to, our greatest rival nation, China. Back on topic, though.
We cannot trust our eyes on this one. We certainly can’t trust reporting from ABC News. And they’re not the only ones, but they were the first ones I saw to lock onto this non-story and spread it far and wide across social media. Even as regular Twitter users quickly rooted out the farce and showed proof that it’s a whole lot of nothing disguised as major news.
You would think mainstream news outlets would stop lying when their numbers are in the toilet when it comes to the American people trusting what they’re seeing on the news. But that’s too much to ask. Salacious lies sell ads way better.
