Donald Trump formally files and announces his 2024 candidacy
The media is seething ( and secretly celebrating ) that Trump is once again running for President.
Much to the chagrin ( and secret delight ) of the mainstream media, Donald J. Trump has once again filed for, and announced, his candidacy for President of the United States on Tuesday.
The media sources reporting on Trump’s 2024 candidacy are very much wearing their hearts on their sleeves with this one with their articles and social media posts. The onslaught of derisive tweets is, admittedly, hilarious. I will let them speak for themselves.
MSDNC didn’t really do it for me here. This is the one time they decided just to report the news, rather than insert their opinions. I expected better. Fox News did the exact same thing but I wouldn’t expect them to throw Trump under the bus immediately. Either way, that’s why I didn’t bother posting their tweet about it. NBC News joins these two in the ‘dishonorable mentions’ section. Lame.
NPR, once a respected news source that I used to very much enjoy until they became another institutional leftist mouthpiece plying the popular leftist narratives 24/7, has really shined with this tweet here. I can imagine if this was typed on a mechanical keyboard, the whole office heard the keystrokes. If it was on a smartphone, it might have a few new cracks in the screen to join the ones already there.
Michael C. Bender is going in his company’s place on this one, as the New York Times tweet wasn’t nearly as fun. It’s still sort of disappointing, but I had to do it because that’s a sweet toupee. It alone earned 3 points from me.
If Jeff Zucker were still in at CNN, along with Brian Stelter, this would have been pure gold. The new management over there trying to be reputable all of a sudden has made them more boring than a Wolf Blitzer cookout. I’d bet dollars to doughnuts his grilled burgers are dry. I only gave CNN a point because they at least threw some U.S. History in there.
Vox was a little more amusing in their tweet, with notable fear lacing every word they wrote. I like to think that the author of that tweet was standing in a puddle of their own piss on a subway platform as they tweeted it out. But then if they’re in New York City it’s a toss up on whether it’s actually their piss or not.
WaPo stuck the dismount beautifully. This is true blue Trump Derangement Syndrome encapsulated in a single tweet and it is a thing of beauty. The Washington Post is very much leading the charge on these angry articles and tweets. I have to give them credit: Twitter’s character limit can be quite restricting at times. To hit that many bullet points on Trump in a single tweet is insanely impressive.
The winner, hands down: The Washington Post. There was true rage, there was a little thinly-veiled fear at the end as they imagine the prospect of Biden attempting to hold off Trump with how much of a trainwreck he has been as President. I felt the emotion in every word. Again: it’s a thing of beauty.
But seriously, I imagine the Dems are at least going to continue shopping around for another opponent for Trump, but it’s unlikely anyone else can really contend. 4 years is a long time for voters to seethe, and with the disappointing results of the midterms, you can bet your bottom dollar that Republicans are going to be swinging for the fences in 2024.
The scenario I imagine is that you’re going to see a drastic sentiment shift, depending on who the left thinks they can beat between DeSantis and Trump. I’m thinking that they won’t bet against Trump again in an election day ( week/month/years? ) showdown again. It might be more pertinent to attempt to primary him out through backing DeSantis with a healthy dose of strategic crossover voting. Will that work? Probably not. It’s going to depend entirely on how willing DeSantis is to actually pursue the White House. Right now, he’s staying very quiet on the subject.
Regardless, the political lightning rod himself is back in the saddle again. For now, I’m just going to enjoy the fear and loathing from the left. Schadenfreude is one of life’s great joys.
