FBI seizes sitting Republican Congressman Scott Perry's phone
The sitting U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 10 district is the latest casualty in the FBI's partisan war on the right.
Just one day after the FBI raided Donald Trump's Mar-A-Lago home, Scott Perry has found himself in the crosshairs of the politically weaponized FBI as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see this continue as they attempt to gather evidence against Trump and anyone who is publicly associated with him. Clearly, the institutional left doesn't seem to want to take the chance of Trump being able to run for President again in 2024.
According to Republican Rep. Scott Perry himself, while traveling with his family, was approached by three FBI agents who presented him with a warrant and subsequently seized his phone for evidence. It's not clear at this time what they hope to obtain from it.
In a statement to Fox News, Scott Perry expounded on the matter." This morning, while traveling with my family, 3 FBI agents visited me and seized my cell phone. They made no attempt to contact my lawyer, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish. I’m outraged — though not surprised — that the FBI under the direction of Merrick Garland’s DOJ, would seize the phone of a sitting Member of Congress. My phone contains info about my legislative and political activities, and personal/private discussions with my wife, family, constituents, and friends. None of this is the government’s business."
I disagree that the government's business does not include legislative and political activities, as that info should always be above board and transparent no matter what. His private life is another matter, though. That I agree with.
“As with President Trump last night, DOJ chose this unnecessary and aggressive action instead of simply contacting my attorneys. These kinds of banana republic tactics should concern every Citizen — especially considering the decision before Congress this week to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to further persecute law-abiding Citizens," said Perry in the statement.
A lot of these guys are hijacking my Banana Republic comment, good to see I got readers in high places. But I digress.
The most likely scenario for all this is the January 6th investigation. It would make sense for both Perry and Trump to have their electronics and documents taken for that, but then for anything tangible to come out of that, the January 6th committee should have to give the accused the chance to mount a legal defense and to be given a fair trial. The January 6th committee isn't anything of the sort. It's yet another partisan kangaroo court led by the queen of RINOs - Liz Cheney. Don't go hunting with her or her dad.
This is why I think the Scott Perry situation is a partial smoke screen; Trump is the true target.
From a tactical standpoint it makes sense to stop Trump well before the Presidential election, but if this leftist gambit fails, they've hyper-invigorated Trump's base like never before by turning him into a proverbial martyr. And those candidates endorsed by Trump will likely see a bump in their polling, if not their overall election tally. I don’t see any of this calming down before the midterms in November, so strap in.
