Jon Stewart and Jack Posobiec prove that the left and right can work together
While salacious outlets will have you believe they are still at each other's throats, a video released by Posobiec afterward demonstrates that cooler heads prevailed.
Jon Stewart really needs no introduction, chances are, you know him. Jon Stewart's tenure on the Daily Show was by far the greatest run that show ever had, and will have. He is a staunch democrat, but usually quite a reasonable one. He also demonstrates the rare ability to actually reach across the proverbial aisle and form alliances with people to whom he would otherwise be politically opposed. Stewart has also always gone to bat for veterans, even in the face of others of his political alignment denigrating veterans - sometimes to his personal detriment. But, he sticks to his guns and you gotta respect a man for that.
For those who don’t know him otherwise, Jack Posobiec is a conservative pundit, author, activist, and television presenter for OANN. He is also a frequent guest on podcasts like Timcast IRL. Looking up his credentials on Google has many slanderous things written about him, but I won’t be referencing the institutional left’s efforts to discredit him.
The story with Stewart and Posobiec begins after a confrontation where Posobiec and National Pulse’s Kassam approached Stewart outside Capitol hill, where Stewart misunderstood Posobiec's intent for coming over to talk to him, and jumped to conclusions about what Posobiec wanted to do. He presumed it was another case of a right-wing pundit coming to troll him, as he stated in this video released by Posobiec on Twitter after they had worked out their differences, along with another veteran named Tim Jensen ( @Gruntstyle1SG on Twitter ). It seems that they all have agreed to put things aside and work together to help get the PACT Act passed, for the good of veterans. As previously stated, Jensen is a veteran, as well as Posobiec, so you can understand their stake in such a bill.
The argument in question between Stewart and Posobiec is being largely blown out of proportion on social media, with each side using this as reason to attack the other. Par for the course. I have seen very few acknowledgements that they have put aside their differences, but that isn’t salacious enough for a Romanized public who want their daily lives to be like watching Gladiatorial combat in the Collosseum. As the old saying goes - “You can catch more flies baiting the trap with shit than with honey.”
Sometimes, the best part of the story is the peaceful resolution. I’m sorry if that isn’t the drama you all wanted, but it’s the best part of it for me.
To add more context, Raheem Kassam, editor-in-chief has been tweeting about the altercation, and has since released a video about the whole situation here. In it he talks about how he was out for a run around the National Mall, when he bumped into Jack Posobiec, wherein they both went to confront Jon Stewart about his rhetoric regarding the PACT Act.
I will say that Posobiec’s manner was somewhat combative, so you can understand a little about why Stewart lost his temper in the first place. He asked why Stewart doesn’t just talk to the Republicans who oppose the bill - something a man of Stewart’s standing could easily arrange - instead of just going on TV to insult and deride the Republican party without address the reason why they opposed the bill.
I won’t defend the actions of Republicans after they shot the bill down, being seen on TV fist-bumping after you shot down a bill that was meant to help veterans is not a good look, least of all in an election year. They deserved ire for that, and they’ve received it. Now we can move on to action instead of rhetoric.
The discussion quickly turned to shouting that was somewhat hard to follow, but the basic gist of it is that Kassam and Posobiec wanted to know if the veterans who were rallying along with Stewart to get the bill passed actually knew about the $400 billion in unallocated funding that Democrats shoehorned into the bill at the last minute, which was the primary reason for Republicans reneging on previously supporting the bill.
Things seemed almost to start turning ugly, with veterans and other supporters shouting at Posobiec and Kassam without letting them actually speak their piece on the matter. Posobiec could be seen explaining that he and Kassam are in favor of the bill as well, and that any opposition is again rooted in that $400 billion in taxpayer funds attached at the last minute before it was voted on.
Kassam stated that, as time wore on, it seemed that cooler heads were indeed prevailing, and perhaps the veterans were a little embarrassed by Stewart’s behavior. The situation was finally defused with actual discussion without an egotistical desire to get a ‘gotcha!’ moment out of it. Turns out, when you talk to people respectfully, they’ll usually listen a lot better.
Everyone eventually calmed down, including Stewart. He stated in the follow-up video with Posobiec and Jensen,” I lost my temper a little bit, I felt like I was being trolled, and I realized that the important thing is, we just gotta get this done for these guys, and get them over the finish line to get the healthcare they need.”
All in all, everyone realized they were on the same side of this thing at the end of the day, and decided that cooperation works a hell of a lot better than division, and we have a happy ending. You should try it sometime, Congress. And no, Swalwell, not that kind of happy ending, stay out of shady massage parlors.
