"Late Show" crew goes free
Nine crew members for the "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" will not be charged for their insurrection, and it's obvious why.
For those who are unaware of the events I speak of - and you can be forgiven for being ignorant of it because it was a mere blip in the news cycle before it was memoryholed - Stephen Colbert's crew members, including comedian and writer Robert Smigel, were arrested after they unlawfully entered the Capitol building, supposedly to do some comedy skits or some such while they were there. This week, the Department of Justice announced that they have no intention of charging them with any crimes. And it makes sense that Joe Biden's DoJ would make this exception since Stephen Colbert is one of his most devout propaganda assets.
The U.S. attorney's office made the decision after their prosecutors deemed it impossible to pursue charges against the nine 'Late Show' crew members as it was not probable to obtain a conviction due to the individuals in question having been invited in and the officials who had done so hadn't formally asked them to leave. How convenient. Who invited them and did they have the authority to do so? That question remains unanswered, at least according to my research.
I can't say I'm all that surprised, but it still irritates me that rules and laws are being applied differently depending on the political allegiance of the perpetrators. If I say I'm a devout democrat can I go knock over a bank? Probably not, I'm nobody important. But I would bet dollars to doughnuts that Colbert could do so and be either not charged at all, or pardoned and allowed to keep the money he stole. At least that's how it feels. It gets incredibly old watching the rich and well-connected of this country being handled with kid gloves while parents who attend school board meetings are labeled 'domestic terrorists' by the FBI.
I figure the FBI would've flubbed the investigation, anyway. They got better things to do, such as sending agent provocateurs like Ray Epps to right-wing events and protests to whip the people there into a fervor, hopefully getting them to commit crimes that the media can then parade around as proof that anyone who identifies as right-wing is no better than a card-carrying member of Al Qaeda. Or the KKK. Or ISIS. Pick your poison, all of these groups evoke vitriolic images of blind hate by the mere mention of their names. And that's the point.
Buzzwords and comparisons are used to control the minds of the masses, and it works exceedingly well. If you're a strong critical thinker who can sift through the nonsense and get to the truth and you attended public school, then you obtained that ability in spite of your education - not because of it. We create worker bees, not free thinkers, in this country. As System of a Down so eloquently put it - "Free thinkers are dangerous". But I digress.
My disappointment is palpable, and it gives Stephen Colbert - the vacuous antithesis of a comedian - even more reason to gloat. He knows he made it into the aristocracy and he doesn't hide his smugness about it. I always thought the best comedians were risk-takers. Dave Chappelle is living proof of that, and you'll be hard-pressed to find many who won't say that Chappelle is the undisputed GOAT ( Greatest of all Time ) as far as comedians go.
Those connected to wealth, power, and influence get away with it once again, while a 69 year old cancer survivor grandmother gets to spend 60 days in jail after merely being caught on the premises of the Capitol on January 6th.
I would say that those on the right need to take to the streets and shout "No justice - no peace!" but then Ray Epps will just show up again to stir up indignation again, while suffering no consequences for doing so. But that's another article.
