New York Gubernatorial Candidate Lee Zeldin attacked onstage at campaign event
The attack took place at a "Unite to Fire Hochul" event in Fairport, NY.
Partisan politics proves that, despite the FBI believing every right-winger to be a potential Timothy McVeign successor, the left is much more capable and willing to act on their violent instincts. It's nothing new, we're through the looking glass; black is white, and white is black.
Republican U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, who currently represents New York's 1st congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, was attacked during a campaign stop in Fairport, New York, on Thursday evening. The man, who is now in custody, appeared to hop on-stage and wrestle with Zeldin. The Zeldin campaign clarified that the man was attempting to stab Zeldin during the altercation. Luckily, Zeldin was not injured.
The attacker was identified as David Jackbonis, age 43. There's no way he wasn't beaten up as a kid for that name. Anyway, the man appeared to have what looked like a two-pronged weapon of some sort in his hand as he got on-stage and said 'You're done' before being apprehended by bystanders and detained with zip-ties.
Kathy Hochul, the current Governor of New York who took office after Andrew Cuomo got a little too handsy with the ladies, immediately condemned the actions of Jackbonis in a tweet.
That’s a stark contrast to rhetoric she released just hours before, as you can see.
I doubt she had anything to do with the attack directly, but the rhetoric she utilized was Hitler-esque in its execution when it comes to whipping mindless lemmings into a fury. You bear at least some indirect responsibility when you use incendiary language to whip up your base. Some of them will come to see it as their duty to do something drastic. And all this in the wake of the assassination of former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe? You’re just asking for copycats. Hochul proved how reckless she is with this one.
Ours is supposed to be a country of free expression. If people think their lives are in danger every time they go to speak their minds, few will have the courage to do it. Social media already taught us to self-censor to avoid bans and getting flagged with spurious ‘fact-checks’ conducted by parties who torpedoed any credibility they might’ve had with their far-left partisan slant on what they deem to be facts at all.
We are already in a civil war of rhetoric, and it's looking like political violence is going to become more commonplace in our society as people reject eachother based on political allegiance and commit to 'othering' one another. When rhetoric is no longer enough, that proverbial bloodlust might become literaly bloodlust. In this case, it almost did.
It’s time to stop merely charging assailants with petty crimes in situations like this. This is the infringement of constitutional rights. That should be a treasonous charge, and I think everyone is very well-acquainted with what the charge for treason was, back when we as a nation still had the balls to execute.
Carl Schmitt is smiling in his grave right now, I suppose. Neocon theory is working as intended.
