YoungRippa59's 'Rippaverse' has had $1.2 million in sales frozen by PayPal
There's a new challenger on the stage of the comic book industry, and leftist institutions are fighting them tooth and nail to suppress them.
The left is quick to profess that they want to uplift marginalized voices and make sure that people of color get represented equally. So what happens when there comes a successful black entrepreneur whose comic company is doing millions in sales right out of the gate? They use their institutional power to suppress their success and try to prevent people from getting their products from the company in question.
Eric July, better known as YoungRippa59 on YouTube, started Rippaverse comics and it has been a roaring success by anyone's standards. The company boasts millions in pre-order sales, but they've hit a big tech snag called PayPal. Supposedly, the account receiving money for said preorders via PayPal has been flagged as suspicious, which has resulted in over $1.2 million being frozen by the payment company. And by Rippa's admission on his YouTube channel, they don't seem to be in a big hurry to free up those funds any time soon.
It's not a good look for a payment company to hassle a company doing business in the millions with bad customer service, but that seems to be exactly what is happening. PayPal Support has done little to rectify the situation except offer excuses, and it's obvious what they're hoping for - they want a mass of chargebacks to happen to cripple Rippaverse, either by stifling their ability to make money or by provoking an expensive lawsuit, which are both avenues by which Rippaverse could, in the worst case, be bankrupted. It's a typical story these days, and it's not unique. Anyone fighting against leftist narratives who has established a prominent platform from which to do so will find themselves in the crosshairs of unhinged activists who have infested big tech companies top to bottom.
To the point at hand, though, I don't think it's going to work the way they want it to work. There are other options, I would definitely encourage Rippa to explore possibly working with Dan Bongino's payment company, Parallel Economies. This is the way we get around this tech blockade - by building alternatives. Make them eat their words for every time they told stifled voices on social media to "make their own social media platform if they don't like it". Or every time someone complained about comics from classic outlets like DC or Marvel being too concerned with fulfilling a woke checklist to create anything good anymore that they should "make their own comics if they don't like it". YoungRippa59 did just that, and you're trying to put him out of business.
If you, the reader, happen to have been a customer of Rippaverse who used Paypal, do as he said in the video he made addressing this issue:
Contact PayPal and keep the pressure on them about the fact that you paid that money to Rippaverse, and not just giving hard-earned money to PayPal to sit on.
DO NOT DISPUTE THE CHARGE! This will cause a wave of chargebacks, and every chargeback will incur an additional - and sometimes expensive! - cost to Rippaverse themselves.
This is the only way to help resolve this as a consumer while still supporting Rippaverse's mission and getting the products you paid for, which you will anyway because Rippaverse will still go forward with deliveries to PayPal customers even though those funds are currently frozen.
Remember why you wanted to patronize this business in the first place and help YoungRippa59 set the world of comics on fire with a fresh perspective on the industry.
