Supreme Court rules race-based college admission practices are unconstitutional
While the mainstream media is framing this ruling as the death of Affirmative Action, it should be seen as a victory for all.
Ladies and gentlemen, it feels like we are finally making real headway against the woke supremacists.
In an historic reversal, the Supreme Court voted along party lines (with leftist judges dissenting of course) to restrict the controversial practice of race-based college admissions, an openly racist methodology to limit admissions based on racial quotas, with Asian students being discriminated against the most because their test scores and GPA tend to be higher on average.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote on behalf of his conservative colleagues on the Supreme Court about their decision.
“The student must be treated based on his or her experiences as an individual — not on the basis of race,” wrote Chief Justice Roberts in the majority opinion. “Many universities have for too long done just the opposite. And in doing so, they have concluded, wrongly, that the touchstone of an individual’s identity is not challenges bested, skills built, or lessons learned but the color of their skin. Our constitutional history does not tolerate that choice.”
Simply put: Meritocracy is returning. And leftists can’t stand it.
Currently, there are cries that this somehow destroys Affirmative Action, and is a rebuke of it by the Supreme Court. Like this ‘banger’ from CBS News.
They’re wrong, of course, but they know that a majority of people simply don’t read the articles. They include their preferred nuance in the title and let that be the guiding hand of the narrative. It’s meant to be clickbait, and it definitely is, but I will at least give her credit on including the meritocracy angle that Chief Justice Roberts used to frame the decision.
The clearly racist practices of before were lauded as key to promoting diversity on college campuses. That is, diversity of appearance, not diversity of ideas. Diverse ideas are racist and dangerous.
And of course, leftist meddlers couldn’t resist trying to insert their vitriol into the argument over race-based college admissions.
The ACLU filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court in August of 2022, effectively sticking their noses in this case and trying to affect the Supreme Court’s decision on the matter. Their contention is that colleges needed to be racist against certain races in order to ensure that black and brown people (unless they’re Indian, in which case get back in your white-adjacent bracket, racist) get a chance to attend those colleges. For more on that, see the piece below that I wrote on it.
The ACLU’s soft bigotry of low expectations is ubiquitous throughout the leftist hivemind infecting academia, where they suggest that black and brown people simply aren’t able to make it on their own without some sort of institutional gerrymandering.
If you ask me, THAT is the real racist part. To suggest that someone needs a helping hand and lower standards for admissions depending on what race they are is a prejudiced approach to college admissions.
Naturally, the left is losing their minds about this one, calling it a ‘huge step backward’ in the fight against racism. Again I must call attention to the fact that they constantly exclude Asians from their calls for equity and inclusion, despite the fact that according to the U.S. Census Bureau, Asians make up just 6.3% of the U.S. population. By any definition you care to use, that makes them a minority. So why, then, do they not get the same consideration? Because they’re too successful.
According to Pew Research, Asian-Americans regularly have higher average household income, as well as higher degrees of education on average than other groups by race. And it is because of these facts that liberal media and leftist academia have coined the term ‘white-adjacent’ to preserve their feeble white supremacy theories. I still don’t know how Barack Obama got elected if we live under white supremacy, but I digress.
Simply put, if you’re too successful, you’re white. That is the outlook that many college liberals have. It’s why there were only faint rumblings in response to anti-Asian hate crimes that spiked during the covid pandemic. Other than the saying “stop Asian hate” being thrown around for a month or two, not much was heard. I won’t bore you with another ‘if roles were reversed’ thought experiment, but you know the routine.
Another question I have about the potential ramifications of college admissions no longer being race-based is this: What happens to HBCUs?
Historically black colleges and universities have always leaned toward admitting black students over anyone else. While there is no real rule against non-black students applying, they will be placed under significantly more scrutiny than black students, as one can imagine. It starkly mimics the practices of other schools like the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Harvard University, where admissions practices included racial scrutiny and required Asian students to have markedly higher test scores and GPA in order to have the same chance as a black or brown (again, excluding Indians) student with a worse academic profile. Will standards have to be changed at these schools as well to avoid lawsuits against racist admissions practices? Or will some double-standard be forcibly established to preserve their coveted status in the HBCU pantheon? That answer remains to be seen.
The true fallout from the Supreme Court’s ruling has yet to be realized, but I don’t think anyone should be disheartened by it. Now, you will be judged on the merits of your achievements, the content of your character, and NOT the color of your skin or your heritage. It is a win for everyone except lazy students who don’t apply themselves.
If you’re angry about this ruling, then I know what bracket you fall in, and it’s not the bracket of high achievers.
