US immigration regulation makes every year a group of at least 50 - 75,000 women - mostly from India - unneeded and unwanted. The H-4 non-immigrant visa they are issued does not allow them to work, to meaningful volunteer, or to have a business. They are told this country has no use for them. Have you ever raised your voice for the H-4's ? (Just asking.)

No, I haven't. That isn't to say I don't care, but I'm just not that well-informed on that subject. Any insight you can offer me, and/or pertinent links to more information, is most welcome.

The H-4 vis is basically proof of what Mr. Hariri said at the WEF. US politician see too many immigrants come in, not enough jobs, so they turn some newcomers into non-people: they are not allowed to work or to have a business, etc. And that is easy as the afflicted are mainly women, mostly from India. Who will speak for them ? Obviously, no-one. Mr. Hariri's truth is already happening Brian, here, in the Country of Opportunity !

Thank you for responding.

It is rather simple. About 80% of the temporary work permits - currently mainly used for tech jobs - are issued to males. These are the H-1B visas, limited to 85,000 a year ("under the cap"). Many of those males are married. The wife can come too - on an H-4 visa. But she cannot work, cannot meaningful volunteer, cannot have her own business. In short: she cannot make a life here.

I was told I should be grateful to be allowed to be here "to service my husband". That sounds a lot like the Handmaid's Tale (without the fertility issues) which became indeed now my reality. Located not in the "country of opportunity" but in the Republic of Gilead, USA.

In reality no H-1B/H-4 combi is nowadays issued anymore to people from Europe. Co.'s discovered a patch: hire the worker in his home country or another EU country for a year, then ship him out to the USA as a specialist or an international manager. His visa is then L-1 and the wife gets an L-2, which allows her to work. So H-4's are now almost all issued to people from India. Mainly women and most of them are well-educated.

The H-4 is not just a racist/sexist N/I visa, it is also sinful IMO. Talent should not be wasted.

As said, the H-1B visas are almost exclusively issued to males. Please realize you cannot apply for one yourself ! An employer has to offer you a job and has to be willing to apply for the work visa, with all the costs and problems that come with it. For capped H-1B's there is now a lottery, with a 1-in-3 chance the petition will be processed.

Women from India who are "techies" have to discover that being female still means being disqualified. Who hires a female who then will bring a spouse - a male - who will not take kindly to having no life ? On top of that, women menstruate ! every month ! they can get pregnant !

The only places a woman can get an H-1B's, is for a job at a college or university, or a not-for-profit research facilitiy as those visas are "outside of the cap".

So the idea "apply for your own H-1B" is preposterous. It is almost impossible to get the work permit and on top of that job would have to be in the same area as where the husband's place of work is located. It is easier to catch a white raven.

We have to wait till our husband gets his Green Card. Again, we have no influence as that visa is between the employer, the lawyer (chosen by the employer) and the US government. Our Green Cards took almost NINE years. Why ? Dishonesty & incompetence.

Life must have been much harder for your ancestor. I realize there is no comparison.

For the past twenty-five years Congress has been unable to reform immigration regulation. The last attempt was the anti-immigrant law of 1996, which worsened the position of H-4's even further.

Most members of Congress think "the US is very generous - we allow in about One Million people a year". Yes, but those immigrants are for about 70% family members of US citizens (spouses, minor children, parents, adult children with their families, siblings with their families). So the US is generous towards its citizens.

The number of (permanent) visas for workers is 140,000 a year and spouses, children, are included in that number. Which means about 70,000 workers are allowed in. Because of this an enormous backlog was created. People from India wait 12-20 year for their Green Card - if it gets issued.

There are hardly (non-immigrant)visas for needed lower level workers, but the jobs still have to be done, as a result illegal immigration grew. So for lack of decisive action of Congress, it is now the cartels who dictate immigration policies. They decide who gets in.

Illegal immigrants could in the past enter the US, work, leave., come again, leave again. Those options were closed in 1996. The undocumented now have to traverse deserts or swim dangerous rivers. Every year hundreds of them die from thirst and exhaustion or drown. Not to mention those who get raped/murdered by gangs during their trek to the US. And they do not leave anymore, which meant their numbers grew.

So you have some experience with how the IT/high tech is a boys&men-only game. And how getting on in years is seen as proof that your talents must be shrinking. I hope you found another profession to flourish in !

Indeed real problems are not dealt with. Worse, they get re-named. I am no longer an "alien" because that word that was seen as insulting. You think I cared what I was called ? Of course not. I cared that my life leaked away in the Republic of Gilead, USA.

Thank you for listening (reading).

Good summary. Thank you!

Mr. Hariri did/does not advocate "depopulation". His statements are an analysis of the situation as it is developing. For many human beings currently born into this world there is no job, no option to create a good life. Has Mr. Gibby not seen the reports - pictures and videos - with large numbers of people from Africa sardined together in small boats, making a dangerous voyage, desperately trying to reach Europe - where most of them will have no future either ?

Mr. Hariri's statement are a hard truth. Accusing bringers of bad news will not make that news disappear.
